Charles Towne Landing

Celebrating the "birth of South Carolina",  living history staff bring to life the site's facinating history through a variety of programs and activities.  Several reenactment groups participate and interact with park visitors and a period encampment is located within the reconstructed palisade wall which was originally built in 1670 to protect Charles Towne

Demonstrations at this event include firing of black powder cannons and muskets, as well as cooking and other daily chores which was crucial to the colony's survival.

Site archaelogists may also be available at some of the parks current excavations to show just what artifacts they are uncovering in the fortified area.

The Friends of Charles Towne Landing has a mission to celebrate the birthplace of South Carolina above and beyonf the means and resources give to the park by the state of South Carolina.

The programs conducted by this group promote living history through the reconstruction of the original palisade wall and refurbishment of the Adventure, a reproduction 17th century cargo vessel.  The Friends of South Carolina believe in the importance of recreating history in order to educate current and future generations.
